As a credit union, we operate everyday with the seven cooperative principles in mind.
For our scholarship this year, please choose one of the seven principles and write a one-page essay about how this principle is good for the community a cooperative serves.
Please email the essay to riannek@aspire.creditunion by May 2, 2022.
The 7 Cooperative Principles
- Voluntary and Open Membership
- Membership in a cooperative is voluntary and nondiscriminatory.
- Democratic Member Control
- Each member receives one vote. This contrasts with other corporations where the number of shares owned determines voting power.
- Members’ Economic Participation
- Members contribute to, and democratically control, the financial resources of their cooperative.
- Autonomy and Independence
- Cooperatives are independent, self-help organizations controlled by their members.
- Education, Training and Information
- Cooperatives provide education on the principles and practices of cooperative business so that members will be good decision makers and so the general public will better understand cooperatives.
- Cooperation Among Cooperatives
- Cooperatives work together at the local, regional, national and international levels to further economic democracy.
- Concern for Community
- Cooperatives work for the sustainable development of their communities through policies accepted by their members.
Winner
One winner will be selected for this scholarship valued at $1,000 by May 30, 2022 and notified via phone. The recipient will pick up their check at the credit union and there will be a photo opportunity.
